Close your eyes and go on a journey. Where do you imagine yourself? What is the food like? Can you smell it? Taste it? What does it look like?
I think it's fun to explore other cultures through their food. Mexican is one of my favorite foods on the planet. I thought I knew Mexican food until I traveled there and tasted authentic Mexican food. What foods would you like to try?
Day EIGHT! One of my favorite rituals is making food from another culture. I love finding recipes that are passed down from one generation to another. I am curious about the spices they use, where their ingredients came from, and what they love about it. You have to agree, one thing that brings people together is food.
It can be hard to find certain ingredients, but I will not lie, Amazon to the rescue. I just bought berbere for my Doro Wat (an Ethiopian recipe.) I learn about it from Maria Emmerich. My 11 year old asks me to make it over and over with a magical glow when she asks.
In the journal pages today, I invite you to take a journey from the comfort of your couch. Where would you go? What flavors would you like to try?
I made butter chicken from India today. I have never used garam masala spice until today. I made some riced cauliflower and pour that buttery sauce and tender chicken over it and it was amazing. Something I had never tasted before. I am the type that will do the same thing over and over again. I get stuck in my comfort zone and never experience other things.
Create rituals that help you to discover new flavors. You never know where it will take you. I love watching a show called Somebody Feed Phil. He goes to all of these places and tries so many foods. I am envious, to say the least. If I had money, I would go on food tours. I want to taste ingredients that are fresh from all over the world. Until then, I create the ritual in my mind and play music and get ingredients and make magic in my kitchen. I invite you to do the same.
